Haydn Sonata No. 60, Hob XVI/50
Ravel Jeux d’eau
Debussy Les Collines d’Anacapri & Feux d’artifice
Chopin Sonata No. 3 in B minor
Winner of the Piano Category Final at BBC Young Musician 2022, and blind since birth, Scottish piano prodigy Ethan Loch takes us on a colourful journey, beginning in London with Haydn’s cheerful sonata that displays his sense of humour, as well as his musical genius. Inspired by the fountains of the Villa d’Este near Rome, Ravel’s sparkling depiction of water was one the first pieces labelled ‘impressionist’, a theme that continues with Debussy’s sunny views of the Italian island of Capri, and the Bastille day fireworks in France. Finally, Chopin’s last sonata, composed in Paris, is acclaimed for its expressiveness and technical brilliance.
Ticket price includes tea, coffee and cake before or after the concert.
